Goheung County, which is located at the central axis of the Yellow Sea circle, is the 1st county in Jeonnam that has beautiful clean sea of Dadohae National Marine Park, long history and traditional cultural resources.
Goheung has a land area equal to 776.07 square kilometers, comprising 6.4% of South Jeolla province(12,073.46§´). Goheung also has 1,057.2 km of coastline that is adjacent to South Sea. Within the total dimension, forest area occupies 460.1§´ (59.3%), farmland area 228.3§´(29.4%) and the rest counts for 87.67§´ (11.3%). Goheung is the southernmost tip of the Korean peninsular, 43.9km long east to west and 56.1km long north to south and shaped like a webfoot. As of September, 2007, it has the population of 79,138 with 35,349 households and is divided into 2 towns and 14 subcounties. |

Influenced by the coastal climate, Goheung¡¯s climate is the mildest region in Korea and is suitable for human activities. The year average temperature of Goheung is 13.2 ¨¬C. The average temperature is the highest in August, averaging 25.4 ¨¬C, and the lowest in January averaging 0.6 ¨¬C. The rainfall of Goheung is year average approximately 1,337mm with half of this falling in between the months of July to September.
Recently, Goheung is rising as the most ideal area to do the business in the country, as opening the 4-land national road, constructing bridge connecting islands and lands between Goheung and Yeosu, and Aerospace aviation center, and light plane airfield in clean nature. In December, 2005, the number of companies registered in Goheung was 4,745 and the employees numbered 15,566. Especially, with the expected opening of aerospace-related centers including Space Center, Space Experience Center and the Youth Space Camp at Oeinarodo and the reclaimed land of Goheung gulf, Goheung will lay the technical and scientific groundwork for future Korean space exploration. In 2006 alone, Goheung¡¯s trade volume reached US$25 Million with US$20Million in export, and US$5Million in import.
Created by receding and rushing waves, the time-honored coastlines surrounding Goheung (about 634.5 miles) feel like a gigantic outdoor sculpture exhibition. And the main sources of food produced in Goheung come from its fertile land, clean sea and bright sun shine as well as warm wind. Among them, citrons, grown under the marine climate of both warm and cold currents, features the very special taste and odor. |
